Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL) is dedicated to increasing local government and community engagement by professionals with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) backgrounds. We believe you can make important contributions in your communities and that local engagement is critical to addressing problems that affect us all. However, it’s not always clear how to have a meaningful impact.

To help address this issue, we are launching a series of blog posts written by engineers and scientists who have helped to promote good governance in their communities through contributions to their city, county, or state government. We hope that their stories will inspire you and spark new ideas, whether you are just getting started with engagement or looking for ways improve your current efforts.

Do you have a story to tell about your own local engagement or of someone you know? Please submit your idea here , and we will help you develop and share your story for our series.

Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL) is a non-advocacy, non-political organization. The information in this post is for general informational purposes and does not imply an endorsement by ESAL for any political candidates, businesses, or organizations mentioned herein.
