Newsletter Writer / Editor Volunteer

We are a dedicated group of volunteers working to help our fellow members of the STEM community more effectively engage with their local communities and governments. Position Overview

ESAL is seeking a Newsletter Writer / Editor Volunteer to serve as a member of our Content Team and work cross-functionally with teams across the organization to produce ESAL’s monthly email newsletter.

While the role includes editorial components, the primary responsibility is crafting short, digestible, engaging newsletter snippets that connect our audience to ESAL’s work. Over time, the role may grow to include more editorial leadership depending on your interests and strengths.

What You’ll Do

As our Newsletter Writer / Editor Volunteer, you will:

  • Write, curate, and edit the monthly newsletter content

  • Craft concise, compelling snippets that translate ESAL initiatives into clear calls to action

  • Collaborate with ESAL teams (programs, workshops, partnerships, and content) to gather timely updates

  • Format and prepare the newsletter in Mailchimp, ensuring readability and accessibility

  • Help maintain a consistent voice and structure month to month

Commitment

  • Approximately 3–10 hours per month

  • Fully remote

  • One-year commitment preferred

Experience & Skills

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has clear and concise writing skills

  • Is knowledgeable in newsletter formatting and email best practices

  • Has experience with Mailchimp (preferred)

  • Has copy editing experience

  • Enjoys collaborating across teams and synthesizing diverse inputs into a unified message
