Virtual Network Engagement Volunteer

Do you believe the STEM community brings a valuable perspective to challenges faced by cities, counties, and states? Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally seeks to inspire, encourage, and empower people in STEM to be active civic participants. We are a dedicated group of volunteers working to help our fellow members of the STEM community more effectively engage with their local communities and governments. And we would be thrilled to have you join our team.

Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally is seeking Virtual Network Engagement Volunteers to help us build and sustain our national network of civic-minded people with backgrounds in STEM. These volunteers will work closely with ESAL’s Program Manager to support our community building efforts on our online platform, ESAL Community. By joining our team, new volunteers will help us to expand our reach to new audiences and cultivate lasting relationships. Ideal candidates will have a current or former experience in STEM and have some experience with communications, marketing and/or organizing.

ESAL is a national, non-partisan, non-advocacy nonprofit. We seek to inspire, encourage, and empower people with backgrounds in STEM to be active civic participants. And we would be thrilled to have you join our team!

As an ESAL Local Engagement Volunteer you will:

  • Direct outreach to ESAL Community members to welcome them to the community and encourage platform adoption and use
  • Assist Program Manager with platform promotion and social media posts
  • Support and build content and events to be hosted on the platform
  • Work with Program Manager to build out volunteer response network and virtual local action projects for community members
  • Research and share resources for virtual local engagement opportunities and contribute your insights
  • Contribute about 5-10 hours per month of your time to do the above
  • Make at least a 6 month commitment to volunteering with ESAL

In return, by volunteering with ESAL you will gain the opportunity to:

  • Network with engineers and scientists across the country who are passionate about improving their communities
  • Demonstrate a concrete commitment to science policy and community engagement
  • Work with ESAL leadership -- a dedicated team of engineers and scientists with deep experience in public policy
  • Influence and shape a growing, high-profile science policy and engagement organization
If you are interested in helping us change how engineers and scientists think about policy engagement, please contact us with a paragraph describing your interest and a link to a bio or an attached resume at info@esal.us.
