Local policymakers and community leaders across the country must increasingly confront a host of issues in which technology plays a pivotal role. From climate adaptation to election security to combating misinformation, making progress on these issues requires technical expertise often absent in local government. This provides a high-impact pathway through which tech professionals on both the business and technical sides of the industry can shape local policy and ensure that governments are more representative of the communities they serve. However, tech professionals are rarely trained in how to translate their skills or meaningfully collaborate with local policymakers and community leaders. This session will feature a panel of diverse women in tech who have leveraged their backgrounds to engage with local issues in their communities. In addition, participants will be provided with step-by-step resources on how to take the next steps in their own local engagement journey.
